Shruti Laya takes great pleasure in inviting you to the Purandaradasa Day Festival on Sunday, Sept.13, 2009.

This will be an all day festival celebrating the music of the saint composer. The day will start with a group singing of the first three Purandara Geethams that most students learn - 1. Sree Gananantha (Lambodara) 2. Kerayaneeranu and 3. Padumanabha. We would like to see a very large group on stage singing these at the beginning of the program, similar to the Pancharatna krithi singing during Thyagaraja Aradhana. The group will be singing at a Shruti of G-sharp (5.5), first speed, swaram+saahityam for each geetham. To preserve coherence among the group, Smt.Sumathy Haran has kindly agreed to lead the group singing.

THERE IS NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED FOR GROUP SINGING. ALL ARE WELCOME TO SING. JUST SHOW UP AT 10:00AM AT THE VENUE!

This will be followed by groups of students from the various music and dance teachers in the area, performing Purandaradasa Krithis (and all other Dasar Namas and Padagalu). We are expecting about 130 participants this time.

In addition to the student groups, Shruti Laya is proud to present four 15 minute mini performances by talented young artists at an advanced stage in their music or dance learning.

Mini Concerts:

All these concerts will be accompanied by Chi.Siddharth Ashok Kumar on Violin, and Chi. Harsha Kanumalla on mridangam

Mini Dance Performance in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi style by Kum. Sriya Bhumi (Guru Smt. Satya Pradeep).

The day will conclude with a grand musical concert by our very own artist in residence, Smt. Saavitri Ramanand. She will be accompanied by Sri S.P.Ananthapadmanabhan on the violin, and Sri. Sriniketh Sundar on mridangam.

So please spread the word to all the rasikas you know, and come and enjoy this wonderful all day event, listening to our own children and encouraging them in their pursuit of music and dance.
