Nirmala Sundararajan & Subhashini Parthasarathy, Apr 30 2011

Shruti Laya's first concert of 2011 was a recital by a mother daughter duo, Smt. Nirmala Sundararajan and Smt. Subhashini Parthasarathy.

The entire concert was marked by a very traditional approach, eschewing all modern gymnastics and fireworks. The Latangi alapana was very elaborate and noteworthy. The main piece was the majestic Srikrishnam Bhaja Manasa in Todi. The concert was rounded off by a couple of Javalis (the Ph.D Thesis topic of Dr.Subhashini Parthasarathy), Rajaji's Kurai ondrum illai.

The artists were ably accompanied on the violin by Sri. Ravi Srinivasan, and on the mridangam by Sri.Prakash Venkataraman.
