On Thursday, Apr.29, rasikas were treated to a beautiful 90 minute concert in the serene ambiance of the Sai Mandir, by Smt.Bhargavi Balasubramanian. A student of Sri. Chitravina Ravikiran, she showed her talent with a short yet masterful concert, selecting both familiar and well loved krithis like Brochevarevarura, as well as very rare items like the Nagaswaravali piece "Raghukulothama" by Oothukadu. Within the confines of the time, she did full justice to the main Reethigowla piece "Janani Ninuvina". Our own local artists Sri. A.R.Balaskandan and Chi. Shenthuraan Tharmarajah ably accompanied the visiting artists. Balaskandan's violin playing was very mellow and supportive. Shenthuraan showed his mettle in an extended thani for the main piece. Shruti Laya thanks Sai Mandir, and Dr.Nori and Smt.Vijaya Malladi in particular, for sponsoring this concert and encouraging us to hold it in the beautiful main hall of the temple. The presentation of the momentos to the accompaniment of vedic chanting lent a special dignity to the proceedings.
