Presidential Volunteer Service Award

The President's Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President's Volunteer Service Award in 2003 to recognize the important role of volunteers in America's strength and national identity. This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too.

We are delighted to announce that Shruti Laya is an official Certifying Organization to issue the Presidential Volunteer Service Awards! The award will include a personalized certificate of achievement from PVSA, a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States, and an official President's Volunteer Service Award medallion. For more details about the award, please visit

Shruti Laya's award year will run from September 1st to August 31st . We will make these awards to Bala Shruti members in good standing (defined as having attended at least 3 Bala Shruti programs over the award year). Volunteer hours from the start of the award year (i.e September 1 2018 for the 2018-2019 award year) will count towards this award. Volunteer hours can be for any organization and of any type, but atleast 10 hours must be earned by volunteering at Shruti Laya or Bala Shruti .

Volunteers for Shruti Laya are expected to adhere to the code of conduct as noted in the Volunteer Guidelines

For full rules and procedures, please download the PVSA Application form . You can use this form to track your volunteer hours over the year.

Please get in touch if you want to be considered for this award, so that you can be registered with the PVSA organization as a Shruti Laya volunteer!
